First stop Dubai

The men got bored waiting for me to take photos! Our visit to Dubai is almost over but we want to share the highlights. It’s been amazing as it always is when we visit the UAE. We don’t like Dubai as much as Abu Dhabi as it is busier and noisier. But it has not disappointed us either. We stayed in Dubai Creek and had a lovely view across the river towards the city. It felt so good to be able to walk in the warm sunshine.
Food features whenever we travel so let’s get that out of the way! We had lunch at a Syrian restaurant called Aroos Damascus. Amazing value for a selection of mixed grills, hummus and other appetisers and the biggest salad I’ve ever seen! Later on we had a coffee and cake. I was expecting a sliver of pistachio cake but got This hug hunk, (no I do t mean Len!) and he had a chocolate piece of art! This afternoon we stopped at a rooftop terrace in the old town for some traditional mint and ginger tea. Tonight we are going on a food tour in Little India.
One last thing to say about food is that at the Arts Cafe they were selling Camel milk ice cream, would have loved to try that!
The thing I love most about the UAE is the prevalence of art everywhere whether you are talking about the buildings or just painting and sculpture everywhere you look. Here are some of my favourite pieces of art. We found quite a lot on our walk around the Old Souk. And even here in the hotel we found lovely paintings.
So in terms of where we visited we made the obligatory trip to the Dubai Mall and watched the fountains display and saw the fish. Both were really worth seeing. Yesterday we took the river bus across to the Old Souk and the view of the buildings was great especially the Twin Towers of Rolex. Sunshine makes everything look better!
And that’s Dubai. When we come back we are going to layover in Abu Dhabi but I’m glad we got to see the city. Next blog will be Len giving first impressions of Australia. PS The QE2 is docked permanently here so we stopped by to have a drink in the Golden Lion.
